barns to east

G.V. II

Public house with adjoining dwellings and 2 barns. Public house is late
C18 but altered, the rest mid C19. Hammer dressed stone. Quoins to
early part. Stone slate roofs. Two storeys. The early part to west
is L-shaped with later additions. All window and door openings appear
to have been altered or replaced. Windows are now single, 2 and 3-light
casements and sashes, many with glazing bars. The later part adjoins to
the east: 5 bays of sashes, 2 blind to 1st floor, one of which has the
coat of arms of the Beaumont family. Blocked doorway to ground floor.
Gable copings on carved kneelers and modillion eaves cornice. Two
broad ashlar gable stacks are reduced in height. The two barns to the
east form an L-shape. Each has very large segmental headed opposed
carriage entrances to front and rear. On the front at high level each
has two round, shuttered pitch-holes. Gable copings and kneelers to
south gable.
