No 80

II

Mid C18 house formerly 'The Anchor' inn. Two storeys and attics. Local gault brick.
Plain tile roof with C17 patterned ridge tiles and 2 medieval ridge tiles of a ram and
a bull. Square ridge stack. Three hung sash windows with glazing bars at first
floor. Iron bracket for pub sign. C19 architraved splayed shop windows flank
half-glazed door with rectangular fanlight. Six panelled house door in moulded wooden
architrave with rectangular fanlight to east with Venetian sash window with glazing
bars in flat headed brick arch.

The ridge tiles were possibly salvaged from buildings destroyed in the 1731 fire. The

are part of the folk history of the town.
