Science laboratories and lecture room. c1876 and 1900. By Austin and Paley.
Dressed, snecked stone, Westmorland slate roof. c1876 block to left to tripartite
composition, single storey. Projecting gabled entrance porch to left of centre
has Tudor arch head to entrance with flanking lights, transoms and 2 lights above
plank door. Chamfered light in gable. 3 mullioned and transomed windows to left;
hipped roof with louvred vent. To right are 5 smaller mullioned and transomed
windows with hood moulds. Tall ridge stack to right of entrance. Right-hand block
of c1900: 3 storeys tower with 2 storeys 3 bays to right. Tower has 4-light and
3-light mullioned window to ground and first floor respectively. Trefoil headed
light in second floor with hood mould; parapet. 3 bays ground floor arcade with
segmental arches to right. On upper floor is tall gabled 3-light window with
mullions and 2 transoms and dripstone, flanked by 3 light mullioned window to left
and right. Tall hipped roof. Included for group value.
