6/88 Cottage, three pairs of
gate piers and enclosing
walls about 70 yards
north-west of Whitfield

GV II

Cottage. Probably late C18 to early C19. Finely coursed sandstone, tiled
roofs and end ridge stack to south. Rectangular plan aligned roughly north/
south. Two storeys. East elevation has one window, a central 3-pane casement,
one 2-light mid-C20 steel casement to left, low pantiled extension to right,
entry at the junction of the two, ball finial to north gable. Gate piers and
walls to the south of the cottage, finely coursed sandstone rubble about ten
feet high; piers have stepped cappings with ball finials with pilasters on
their inner sides. Cottage, gate piers and walls form an important enclosure
to the west of the nearby stables (qv). Included for group value.
