Gas generating house, probably 1903. Brick with stone dressings, timber-framed tile-hung tower with lead cap; red tile roof. Small L-plan building; north part,which housed the generator, has half-hipped gable end with vertical- panelled door under 4-centred arch and block eaves cornice; another vertical- panelled door on left return and 2-light mullioned window on right. Octagonal lighthouse-like tower rises from ridge, with slightly bowed sides and small casement windows below the pyramidal cap. Interior: the tower still houses the tank which supplied water to calcium carbide in the generator (removed) beneath, producing acetylene to provide gas lighting. This potentially-hazardous equipment does not appear to have remained in use long; the tower is an unusual Survivor.
