House, 1903 for J.T. Steel enlarged 1907 and 1913. Brick with sandstone
dressings, pebble-dashed first floor with some timber framing. Red clay tiled
roof, brick chimneys. Restrained Arts and Crafts style.

Main south front I½ storeys, 4 bays, the outer ones cross-gabled. Projecting
gabled porch in second bay has canted ground-floor angles; half-glazed double
door, with original bullseye panes, in four-centred-arched surround with
stepped lintel moulding and hoodmould on carved stops. Timber-framed first
floor on brattished bressumer has canted oriel on carved bracket, with latticed
iron casement; carved tie-beam and bargeboards with pendant. Jettied left
bay has Atlas corner bracket. Multiple-light windows, stone-mullioned on
ground floor, the upper window to right of porch a flat-headed dormer; all
latticed iron casement. Banded chimneys irregularly placed. Left return shows
wood verandah with 3 keyed elliptical arches on square columns, balustrade
and swept tiled roof. Wide gabled left bay of 1907 is timber-framed above
ground floor and has central Ipswich-style oriel and carved bargeboards.
Elongated hexagonal stack, with multi-stepped cornice, at left.
Interior: Stair in porch has pierced flat balusters. Entrance hall with 1913
fireplace and conversation corner. Morning room with carved bressumer, lounge
with carved stone fireplace and walnut chimney peice. Exposed timber framing
at junction of 1903 and 1907 wing. Ceilings with plaster motifs and raised
borders in C16 or early C17 manner. Attractive original stained glass windows
to entrance hall and morning room inglenook. 1930's bathroom.
