SX 89 NW CREDITON HAMLET

7/85 Barn approximately 30 metres
south-west of Moor Farmhouse

Barn with cow stalls under. Mid C19. Volcanic rubble with brick dressings; slate
roof. Double barn over basement housing cow stalls facing farmyard and house
beyond to north-east. Symmetrical front, the ground floor comprising 3 central
segmental-headed openings to cowstalls flanked by narrower doorways and another
cowstall opening at right end (left end blocked by farm buildings). All have
segmental heads with brick voussoirs. At first floor level massive barn doors
flank a circular pitching eye. To right of centre a flight of external stone
stairs rise to first floor. Low-pitch slate roof is hipped each end and projects
forward on raking timber struts to provide hood to barn doors. Barn floor is
carried on an axial beam of large scantling, its several lengths propped by a
series of wooden and iron posts, and close-set joists strengthened by cross-braces
set between. 9 bay roof of king post trusses. Massive rubble built post some 8
metres behind barn remains from some form of demolished engine-house.
