Breese House, The
Drapers, Hewkes House.
GV II
House, converted to flat, shop and house, circa 1840, with earlier core, and
late C19 additions of red brick with slate and pantiled roofs. 'L'-shaped
plan, 2 storeys and attics with rear lean-to additions. North south wing,
with late C19 double shop front built out from the facade, with windows with
glazing bars and central half glazed door with fanlight. To the right, the
house, 3 windows at first floor and below,door with semi-circular traceried
fanlight, fluted columns and entablature. Sash windows with glazing bars
and flat gauged brick arches. North elevation, with 3 light shop window with
Gothic mullions, broken semi-circular arched heads and panelled surround,
all in 2 blank brick panels with semi-circular arches. 2 semi-circular arches
above, the left with sash window with glazing bars. At the rear, scattered
C20 fenestration. Catslide roof and wedge dormer. Axial and internal stacks.
Roof hipped. East west wing circa 1870, 6 bays of sash windows with glazing
bars and flat gauged brick arches. Inserted C20 door to left. Double panelled
doors to yard under semi-circular gauged brick arch. Entrance door with 6
panel part glazed door with semi-circular fanlight with 'Y' tracery under
double reveal gauged brick arch. East west wing included for group value.
