Description

LODDISWELL ALLERON
SX 74 NW
5/88 Butterwell c.25m east of
Alleron House
GV II
Butterwell. Dated 1818 on lead outfall. Rubble with slate roof. A small
gabled structure built into ground slope at back and with opening to south with
straight-sided pointed head. Interior: is plastered, with a slit in the back
gable and a small square opening each side. Spring water supplies an internal
inset tank and overflows to the surrounding ornamental pool. There was formerly
a door, now missing. The whole very much overgrown at the time of survey
(July 1988), but rather grand version of an item found elsewhere in the South
Hams area.
