A Grade II Listed Building in Colchester, Essex

WInsley Almshouses Chapel

Uploader's Comments

Established by the Will of Arthur Winsley, who died on 30th January 1726, the charity has been in existence now for over 280 years. Along with the original Almshouses, a Chapel was also built, which is still in use today. Within his Will, Arthur Winsley stipulated that a “Good Preacher” should be paid to preach a sermon every New Year, a tradition which continues to this day. During the rest of the year the Chapel is used for social gatherings and activities, as well as the twice annual Residents Meetings with the Trustees.
