Entrance lodge, now disused. Dated 1836 for Charles Kynaston Mainwaring.
Yellow sandstone ashlar on rock-faced ashlar plinth; slate roof with
moulded coped verges. T-plan; Gothic style. Single storey. Front has
4-light oriel window with 4-centred heads. Right gable has steeply-gabled
porch with 4-centred inner and outer arches; octagonal oriel to right with
projecting finial from crenellated parapet. Ridge stack has 2 attached
octagonal shafts with chamfered capping. Projecting front gable has
stepped external stack with short moulded shafts and datestone "F/C K/M"
with date "1836" below, all in Gothic lettering within diamond-shaped panel.
Crenellated roughly coursed sandstone rubble wall attached to left of lodge
forms small square enclosure with segmental-headed doorway to front and
infilled doorway to left. Gate piers: approximately 4m to east of lodge.
Sandstone. Left octagonal with finial projecting from crenellated parapet;
right square with moulded capping and finial. Interior. In poor condition
at time of resurvey (February 1987) but noted as having chamfered ceiling
beam to rear left room. Q.v. under Oteley.
