Signal box and weighbridge office. c1900 for the North-Eastern Railway.
Red brick in English garden wall bond, the upper storey rendered. Wooden
stairway; slate roof. Rectangular plan, 2-storey, 2-window front, on
plinth, the upper storey with clasping pilasters jettied on stepped corbels.
East (Scarborough) side: board door at left of 12-pane sash with stone
sill and cambered arch. 2-light, 18-pane horizontal-sliding sash in first
floor. Right end stack at base of pitched roof. West (York) side: external
stair to signal box door, at left of 2-light horizontal-sliding sash.
Round-headed radial-glazed window with stone sill beneath stairs. South
(line) side: two 2-light horizontal-sliding sashes with stone sills. Saw-
toothed raised brick eaves band in barge-boarded gable end with finial.
North (yard) side: 20-pane sash with opening pay-window on ground floor.
Round-headed radial-glazed window in first floor. Stone sills to both
windows. Gable detailing repeats south side without original finial.
Signal box still functions and is included for group value.
