GV II
Stable block. 1834 (datestone) for William Thorne (W. Thorne (sic.) on datestone),
possibly designed by J. Cock of South Molton. Stone rubble, rendered to the front;
bitumen-painted hipped slate roof.
Plan: Small rectangular building with external stone steps up to the first floor on
the rear (farmyard) elevation with a probably later 2-storey lean-to at the right
end.
Exterior: 2 storeys. Asymmetrical one window front with a wide doorway with paired
timber doors to the left with a keyblock, doorway probably enlarged; smaller C19 or
C20 plank door to the right; 3-light transomed window to first floor level with a
segmental arched head and keyblock. The rear elevation, facing into the farmyard,
has external stone steps up to a loft door.
Interior: Not inspected.
Although the building is known as the stable it may have served some other purpose.
Group value with Grilstone and farmbuildings in the farmyard to the north.
