Description

SW 52 NE GERMOE CHURCHTOWN, Germoe

6/225 Wash house east of Bosinney

GV II

Probably a wash house. Circa early-mid C19. Painted rubble walls, grouted scantle
slate roof and painted tapered round chimney at the east gable end.
Single-cell plan with doorway at west gable end small window in south wall and
fireplace with flanking niches in the east gable end.
It has been suggested that this building may have been a blowing house (it is near a
stream for water-powered bellows) however, use as a wash house or bake house seems
more likely. With its curious chimney the building is an important contribution to
the village green in front of the Church of Saint Germoe qv.
