Posts, gates and railings at north-west drive to Lambton Castle. Circa 1820
possibly designed by Ignatius Bonomi. Wrought iron. Large and elaborate
gateway: 4 posts, defining carriage and pedestrian entrances; flanking serpentine-
plan railings.

Tall posts have corner bars rising to ogee tops with elaborate finials; paired
rails with decorative infill including spirals and scrollwork; central lozenges
with rams' heads (Lambton insignia). Pair of carriage gates and flanking
pedestrian gates have close-set bars and scrolled ogee crests; similar decorative
infill between rails; each leaf of carriage gates has a central panel with
Achievement of Lambton Arms. Railings have close-set standards with spiked-
ball heads and regularly-spaced narrow panels with latticing, scrollwork and
ogee crests.

Stone end piers and walls beyond are not of special interest.
