Description

ALTARNUN TRETHINNA
SX 28 SW
4/114 Little Trethinna
15/5/85
GV II

House. Circa late C16 or early C17. Stone rubble. Slate roof with gable ends.
Stone rubble end stack on left and brick shaft to end stack on right.
Plan: The house is built down the slope with the ground rising to left. The
original arrangement of the plan is uncertain and the interior was not available for
inspection (1987). The house is roughly divided into two, the left hand half with an
entrance on right and room on left heated by an end stack. The right hand half has
an entrance to left and the right hand room is heated by an end stack. There appears
to be a small room between the two entrances and it is uncertain which was the
original entrance. Attached on the lower right hand end is a further one-room and
entrance plan range, possibly a later C19 addition.
Exterior: Two storeys. Asymmetrical 4-window front with entrances to left and right
of centre with plank doors and dressed stone arches. There is a small 1-light
casement between. To left is a 2-light casement and to right a C19 2-light casement
in an opening originally for a granite 2-light mullion window, the surround
surviving. Across the lintel is inscribed probably 'RICHARD HAVCRE'. On first floor
are four 2-light casements.
Interior: Not accessible. An interior inspection is likely to reveal several
interesting features.
