5/35 Latcham House

G.V. II

Farmhouse, now house. Late C17/early C18, possibly incorporating earlier
building, extended to left and refronted mid C19, with later alterations.
Rubble, rendered, cob walling to rear right, double Roman tiled roof with ridge
and gable stacks, pantiled rear wing. L-plan, through passage, ridge stack
formerly at gable end. 2 storeys and 4 windows, all 4-pane sashes, 2nd from
right 1/2-glazed door. Right return has wall extended at base of stack, catslide
to rear with C20 casement at ground floor right; left return has single storey
rear wing, formerly outhouse, with buttresses, 4-pane light, C20 casement with
glazing bars, double door and lower lean-to at gable end. Rear has C20 porch
with glazed door at rear of passage, 3-light casement to right, C20 raking dormer
in catslide; inner side of rear wing has 2 doors and small single light,
1/2-glazed door in lean-to at end. Interior: room to right has cob walling to
rear, left partially exposed after restoration, room to left of passage has wide
fireplace with rebuilt brick jamb to left, cambered chamfered lintel and oven to
right, part of chamfered beam remaining along passage side; wide passage with
straight stair. Remains of thatch said to be in roof, not accessible at time of
survey (March 1985), roof level raised during C19 alterations.
