entrance gate to cut

Road bridge over canal and lock gates to canal at junction with
R. Calder. Circa 1769. Engineer John Smeaton. Single shallow
segmental arch built on an angle. Hammer dressed stone with ashlar
copings, rendered under arch. Parapets and bridge terminate in
round buttresses with cap.
The lock is of deeply coursed stone with parapet to north. Setted
towpath on north side. Wooden lock gates and winding-gear intact.
