Built by William Rookes in 1643. Coursed sandstone rubble U plan substantial house.
Two-storeys and attic, recessed centre with 3-storey gabled wings. The left wing
has large mullioned and transomed windows with West Riding gable window of 4 lower
lights and 2 upper. Moulded doorway with 4 centred arch in squared head, ornamental
spandrels, lintel inscribed 1643. The right hand wing remodelled later in the C17
with 3 lofty single mullion and transom windows. A continuous drip mould rises above
the lower windows to four triangular pediments. Gable windows as in other wing.
Other fronts have various mullioned windows. The interior largely altered but there
are arched stone fireplaces to the centre block on ground and first floor and roof
trusses to the centre block and east wing. These have ties, yokes supporting short
king posts, a ridge and side purlins.
