Coach-house and stable-block now 3 dwellings. Dated 'HV/1826'. For Harry
Verelst of Aston Hall. Coursed, squared, dressed red sandstone, Westmorland
slate roofs. U-shaped courtyard plan with central coach-house linked by
screen walls to flanking stable wings. Coach House: 2 storeys, 1:3:1 bays.
Plinth, chamfered quoins. Recessed central bays have ashlar piers to glazed,
segmentally-arched carriage openings with triple keystones, the central
keystone with initals and date. Architraved door to bay 1; architraved 20-
pane sash to bay 5. 1st floor: short 10-pane sash in architrave to each bay.
Eaves cornice, hipped roof. Rear: channel-rusticated quoin strips; 9
segmentally-arched recesses at foot of wall beneath architraved window
openings; architraved doors to each end bay; cornice with ashlar blocking
course and central corniced stack flanked by scrolled brackets. East Wing,
linked to left of Coach house by corniced wall with door and glazed segmental
arch: 2 storeys, 5 bays. Ashlar plinth, chamfered quoins. Renewed, central,
panelled door in architrave flanked by renewed 20-pane sashes in architraves;
short architraved 10-pane sash to each bay on upper floor. Eaves cornice to
hipped roof with corniced ashlar stack above bay 2. West Wing: as East Wing
but much rebuilt on right including renewal of architraves in concrete; some
quoins on right formed in flush brickwork; stack removed. Link wall to Coach
House as on its left but without door or glazing to openings.
