Farmhouse and attached cottage. House of c.1745 for Francis Cholmeley; cottage mid C19. Sandstone, ashlar to house, coursed and squared to cottage; pantile roofs. House of 2 storeys with loft, 3 bays with lower 2-storey, l-bay cottage to right. Warren House: plinth, first-floor band, eaves band; openings have cantilevered lintels with projecting keystones; central door of 6 panels, the upper 2 panels glazed, below 3-pane overlight; 16-pane sash windows, formerly with external shutters; 2 cast-iron tie-rod plates below first-floor band and 2 wrought-iron tie-rod plates below eaves band; shaped kneelers; moulded ashlar coping; two C20 roof windows; brick end stacks surmounting C19 ashlar lower stacks. Warren Cottage: first-floor band; on each floor a 16-pane sash window with flat arch above; kneeler, ashlar coping and brick end stack to right. Rear: Warren House: window openings have same lintels, and small side-sliding sashes survive on first floor. Left return: 2 loft windows. Bands do not return around rear or sides. Interior: Warren House: ground-floor doors of 6 fielded panels; ground-floor room to right has large segmental-arched kitchen fireplace with round-arched cupboard with door of 3 fielded panels to right; first- and second-floor doors of 2 panels, some windows have panelled reveals; turned-baluster dog-leg staircase continues up to loft; principal-rafter roof trusses with queen struts on collar. Warren House was hastily rebuilt when Francis Cholmeley married in 1745, so that his bride could be reasonably housed while Brandsby Hall (qv) was completed, because his workmen had demolished far more than he had intended, leaving only two rooms habitable.
