Hutton Bridge

A Grade II Listed Building in Rudby, North Yorkshire

Site of Paper Mill (1757), Hutton Bridge

Uploader's Comments

On this site a paper mill was erected in 1757. During the 1850's it was converted to produce linen from flax grown locally. The cloth was used for sail making. The production of sail cloth declined with the advent of steam propulsion for ships. The mill was closed in 1908 and, after being used for public meetings, was demolished in 1937 to make way for road widening.
