House and outbuilding, now 2 cottages. Early C18 or earlier, raised and
remodelled in C20. Coursed rubble limestone with irregular quoins at left
end; pantile roof and brick stacks. Low 2-storey, 4-window front; gable end
to street. Blocked doorway to left of centre; present entrances at rear.
Small fixed light at right of centre. Remaining windows are all large-pane
horizontal-sliding sashes, of 3 lights to ground floor right, the others
2 lights. Thin timber lintels to all openings. End and centre stacks. The
house in its original form was occupied by the Wrelton Iron Foundry
blacksmith in the C19. North Yorkshire and Cleveland Vernacular Buildings
Study Group report no H896: Wrelton, Forge Cottage (Foundry Cottage).
