Includes: Wye Cottage and Granby Cottage WATER LANE.
Houses now shops and restaurant; Early C17 and probably C18,
altered. Roughcast and rubble limestone with some sandstone
dressings and quoins; tile and stone slate roofs.
EXTERIOR: C17 2-storey, 2-window range (Wye Cottage) with
2-storey, 2-window range side-wing to south-east (Granby
Cottage).
Wye Cottage: roughcast gabled facade (to Water Lane) has
part-glazed door to right of transomed 4-light casement with
leaded lights. Similar window above has diamond-section wooden
mullions and transom and appears to be C17.
Granby Cottage: rubble limestone; inserted window on left of
quoined doorway with stone lintel; rock-faced sandstone ridge
stack.
Rear facing (Water Street): doorways into end and side of Wye
Cottage. Angled stone-slated canopy above doorway into Granby
Cottage. Scattered fenestration of various C19 and C20 wooden
casements; leaded lights.
INTERIOR: Wye Cottage: chamfered ashlar side-wall fireplace,
chamfered transverse ceiling beam and large-section common
joists with stopped chamfers. Collared principal-rafter truss
with cranked tie beam and door-head cut out. Spine beam.
