Description

ST 8032-8132 MERE SALISBURY STREET
(south side)
6/63
Jean's TV and Electrical
Shop and house adjoining
Mere Cottage

GV II

Pair of houses with shop, in small detached group. Early C19. Coursed and
squared rough dressed limestone, double Roman roof tiles. Modest pair of
properties but relatively untouched externally, two storeys, 2+2 windows, all
16-pane sashes set to wall face under flush voussoirs; in left part a double-
fronted shop front with central glazed door, framing pilasters centre and ends,
with decorative scrolls to simple continuous moulded fascia; the left half
retaining 4-pane display window, right half single plate glass. Under window 3
is 4-panel door with horizontal overlight. Brick stack to left gable end; right
gable end rendered where former adjoining property removed. Back has various
2-light casements, 4-pane sash and paired sash. This building represents what
much of the street must have looked like before multiple C20 changes in many
other properties.
