Description

NY 34 SW FELLHILL STREET

545-0/8/10001 Barn approx. 5 metres
north-east of Shippon

G.V II

Field barn. Probably C17, altered. [....stone] random rubble with
quoins, stone slate roof with some corrugated sheet patching to rear.
Rectangular plan (probably of 3 bays) on north-south axis, facing
west. The west front has square-headed wagon doorway in the centre,
with a wooden lintel, and some very narrow slit breathers. Both
gables have copings with kneelers; the left gable wall has a blocked
doorway, and an owl-hole in the apex. The rear wall has 4 vertical
joints, and a blocked C19 doorway. Interior not accessible at time
of inspection (November 1991), but appears to have principal-rafter
roof. Forms a good visual and functional group with the shippon
approx. 5 metres south-west (g.v.), the pair representing a good
example of an upland "outfarm".
