3/23 The Vicarage
II
Vicarage. Dated 1679, rebuilt 1832 (on tablet). Squared and coursed rubble
plinth, colourwashed render with dressed stone openings, copings, double Roman
tile roofs and ashlar stacks. Symmetrical C17 block with 1832 porch extension to
north front and further 1832 extension to south front. Main block of 2 storeys
and attic with 3-window east and west fronts. Windows are wide 1832 openings
with hoodmoulds and tripartite small pane casements. Central doorway in west
front has a chamfered architrave and hoodmould. 4-panel door with 2 rectangular
fanlights. Commemorative tablet above door reads: 'The Gift of Mrs. Mary
Tooker/Widdow to my Grandson William/Gore Esqr. to be imployed for/the use of A
Protestand Minister/for ever that shall Supply the/cure at Barrow : 1679/Rebuilt
A.D. 1832 by A Legacy From/EDWARD GORE Esq. of Barrow Court'. Cartouche between
attic gables above tablet, double span roof, side gable end rendered stacks.
