Inn. C15 origin, remodelled C17 incorporating materials from tower of Church
of St. Mary (q.v.), with later alterations and additions. Rubble, rendered at
rear, pantiled roofs, double Roman tiled to rear, porch and south block, gable
stacks. L-plan, former through passage. 2½ storeys with 2-storey wing to
left, gabled wing projecting to right, 1:1:2 windows, ground floor has C20 bay,
3-light casement with timber lintel and C20 shutters, porch with pitched roof,
C20 outer door and inner door with moulded frame, 3-light casement to right,
1st floor has 3-light casement with timber lintel, sash in exposed box,
2 similar sashes to right, 2 blocked windows in gable. North elevation has
3 windows, ground floor has two 3-light casements, central 2-light casement with
loop catch, 1st floor sashes with thick glazing bars and exposed boxes, central
sash blocked; lower wing to right straight joint between, one window, 3-light
casement at ground and 1st floor, with decorative loop catch and iron stanchion
at 1st floor, plank door in plain frame to right, ground floor openings with
timber lintel. Attached block to south of 2 storeys and 3 windows, all sashes,
2nd bay from left has cart entry to courtyard, plank door in plain frame to
right. Interior: deep chamfered and stopped beams, plank and batten doors,
deep splayed reveals to windows, winder stair to rear of passage rising to attic.
Part of an important group at a crossroads.
