ST 58 SE ALMONDSBURY OVER LANE (south east side) Over

11/43 Archway to Over Court

G.V. II*

Archway with flanking wings. Mid C18. Sandstone and limestone rubble,
limestone ashlar and brick. Classical style. Broken forward centre of
2 storey archway has round headed arch with keystone and rusticated voussoirs,
flanked by 2 rusticated Roman Doric columns, triangular open pediment with
modillions, square plan plinth with small opening in front, with scrolls,
cornice and obelisk. Rear arch has banded sandstone and limestone rubble
surround with limestone impost blocks and keystone, plain open pediment on
brackets, upper part as front. 2-storey, 4-window wings have ground floor
windows with segmental heads of banded sandstone and limestone rubble, limestone
keystones and cills, ist floor has lunettes with similar dressings, parapet, all
window openings repeated on rear but blind. Interior: quadripartite brick
plastered vault, 2 windows at lst floor and (blocked) door to each side, all
with segmental heads. In poor condition at time of survey (June 1984).
