Headstone and figure. c1923. By Sir William Goscombe John.
Bronze figure and stone headstone. Rectangular stone kerbed
plot with crazy paved infill. Inscribed steps surmounted by a
sculptured bronze female figure, in flowing robes with head
covered by an enveloping shawl, moving away from the
spectator, her head turned for a final backward glance with
fingers of right arm raised to the lips. Forming a backdrop, a
square-headed headstone with battered sides and carved
segmental shaped cornice with anthemion motifs.
HISTORICAL NOTE: Sir William Goscombe John was a Welsh
sculptor who worked in the 1890s under Rodin in Paris.
