Baldacchino memorial. c1899. By Sir Banister Flight Fletcher,
the deceased's son. Stone. Rectangular plan steps with
sculptured figures of seated women in flowing Classical attire
at angles supporting an inscribed plinth surmounted by a
Classical canopy of 4 Ionic columns supporting an entablature,
with projecting cornice, inscribed "Banister Fletcher"; and
formerly crowned by an enriched flaming urn. Beneath the
canopy, an inscribed column with coats of arms, that at the
top set between volutes. HISTORICAL NOTE: Sir Banister
Fletcher was an architect, architectural historian and author
of "A History of Architecture on the Comparative Method". Sir
Banister Flight Fletcher is also buried here.
