1768 (date of building lease). Built by James Rooker, first Independant Minister,
as his home and an academy for the training of minister. A rare example of
a Dessenting Academy, and one of the forerunners of Western College, Plymouth.
Ashlar front. Hipped tile roof. 2 storeys and attics. Modillion eaves cornice.
Plinth and eaves cornice returned round giant angle pilasters. 5 ranges of
sashes with painted stone architraves and sills. 2 hipped dormers. Panelled
door with panelled reveals, moulded architrave, and hood on voluted console
brackets. East elevation has 4 cased sashes with glazing bars. Casement
windows behind. Rear part has old tile roof. Store parapet wall in front
with small gatepiers.
