7/47 Torne Farmhouse

- II

Farmhouse. Circa early C17 or earlier. Rendered stone rubble. Slate roof,
lower end slurried slate roof, with gabled end. Eaves at higher south end have
been raised. Almost certainly three room and through across passage plan with
lateral hall stack on front and end stacks heating inner room and lower room
which was probably the kitchen. Two storeys. Four window range. C19 two-light
casements with glazing bars. Window at lower end circa C18 three-light casement
with leaded panes. Two doorways with C19 hoods. Doorway to right of centre
probably to through across passage. The left hand doorway is later insertion.
Projecting hall chimney stack at centre of front with set-off. Interior not
inspected but the house appears to be in an unmodernised state and many of the
early interior features probably survive. Judging from the steep pitch of the
roof at the lower end, the roof structure probably survives here, and although
the roof over the hall and higher end has heightened eaves, the original structure
probably survives here as well.
