Description

CHULMLEIGH
SS 71 NW
4/1 Bealy Court
- II

House. Circa 1830-40 but incorporating C17 fabric in rear kitchen range. Joint-
lined stuccoed stone rubble. Slate roof with deep bracketted eaves to front gables.
Rendered stacks to each end.
Plan: 2-room and central passage plan with staircase in gabled projection to rear
of passage with 2-storey integral outshut to right and service range extending to
left. This wing incorporates the C17 fabric with demolished shaft to rear lateral
stack towards right end and has a short gabled wing to rear. The range appears to
have been entirely remodelled in C19.
Exterior: 2 storeys. 3-window range. Original C19 fenestration intact, 16-paned
hornless sashes above 8 over 12 paned sashes. Shallow projecting gabled wings with
rusticated quoins flank the recessed central bay which has an imposing distyle in
antis porch with granite columns and entablature. Raised and fielded 6-panelled
door with overlight. Recessed service range projecting to left has 3-window range,
all 12-paned sashes.
Interior: not inspected but believed to retain good quality C19 fittings and
decorative wrought iron balusters to staircase.
