18/243 Ireland headstone approximately 35

tower of the Church of St Giles

GV II

Headstone. Dated 1793 in memory of Mary Ireland. Slate. Upright slab standing
approximately 1.4 metres high with shaped head. The inscription is framed by
flanking fluted pilasters with a segmental arch over made of tiny circles. Above is
a carving of the sun, a star motif to left and crescent moon to right. The
inscription is in Roman serif upper and lower case lettering, the first word is
ornamental. It records the death of Mary Ireland in 1793 and also Thomas, Hannah and
William with no dates.
