NY 26 SW BOWNESS Bowness

2/18 Former house to east
of Bowness House
Farmhouse

G.V. II

House now outbuilding. Probably C17 with early C18 facade. Coursed red and
calciferous squared and coursed sandstone (from the nearby Roman Wall);
graduated slate roof, brick chimney stack. 2 storeys, 3 bays. 6-panel
round-headed door in heavily moulded doorcase with impost blocks and open-
pedimented cornice. Sash windows with glazing bars in painted stone surrounds.
Rear wall has remains of 2 stone-mullioned windows which suggest a C17 date.
Outbuildings to left are not of interest.
