Lateral and gable end stacks with stone shafts.

to left containing the principal room, with another principal room to rear left. To
right there is a room set back, which is said to have been a doctor's surgery, with
stair hall behind and service rooms with service stair to rear right.
Victorian Gothic and Vernacular Revival style.
Exterior: 2 storeys, asymmetrical front with gable end to left and porch set in the
angle to the range to right. The bay to left has square by at ground floor with 2-

The porch is tiled, the inner doorway with cranked head and 2-centred arched
overlight, the door with strap hinges. To right a 4-light casement with slate-hung
depressed 2-centred arch above and small 2-light casement at first floor.
The left side is the garden front. At ground floor to right a 3-light casement with
depressed 2-centred arch, slate-hung; triangular bay to left with cusped casements
and pyramidal roof set on a broached base. First floor has 3-light casement with
segmental slate arch and triangular oriel on wooden bracket with slate roof.
External stack to left, corbelled at first floor with a slate-hung oriel set close by
the stack. 3-light casement in steep pitched dormer to the attic. At the right side
the main range has 3-light and 4-light window with slate-hung 2-centred arches,
similar single pointed light with double between. To end right a 3-light C20 window,
and at end left a single light with double stepped cill, to the doctor's surgery.
First floor has a gable to left over similar 3-light window and 2-light casement to
the attic, the upper part of the gable slate-hung. At first floor to right there is
a 4-light window with slate hung 2-centred arch. Axial stack with ashlar shaft and
cornice and small triangular attic dormer. To the right is the service wing, with 2-
light casement and half-glazed door, with stable door at the end to the wash-house.
The main gable end of the house above has a bellcote with pitched roof and bell, and
single light to the left of the stack.
At the rear, the gable end to right has ground floor 4-light casement with slate-hung
2-centred arch, 4-pane sash at attic level, the apex of the gable also slate-hung.
Buttress to left in the angle to the end to left, first floor level slate-hung, with
a single light. At ground floor there is the back door, with cranked head and
pointed arched fanlight. Single storey service wing to left with similar 3-light
window with slate-hung 2-centred arch. The main gable end to left has a small gabled
dormer at the inner side and external stack at the gable end.
Interior: The entrance hall has a tiled floor, with winder stair to rear; this has
tiled treads, and a free-flying handrail supported on wrought iron brackets. Service
stair to rear right. At ground floor all the doors are panelled, with asymmetrical
panels. The room to front right has chimneypiece with tiles and pointed slate arch,
stone corbelled mantel. The front left room has Gothic stone chimneypiece. The rear
left room has complete panelling and stone chimneypiece, with pointed arch in slate,
Devon marble mantel and tiles.
This is a very good example of a William White house, planned in Gothic style with
asymmetrical grouping of parts and close attention to detail, such as the design of
window catches and other ironwork.
