Farmhouse. C17, built in at least 2 phases. Granite rubble, some granite ashlar and
granite dressings. Grouted scantle slate roofs. Dressed granite stacks over the
gable ends and over a cross wall (originally a gable end), left of middle.
Plan: Original house on the right is a 3 room plan (now 2 rooms) with a parlour on
the left, a cross passage right of the parlour; an unheated room right of the
passage; the hall at far right and at right angles behind the passage is a 1 room
plan service wing also containing the stairs. On the left is a later C17 2-room
plan addition with a stair projection behind the left-hand side at the rear.
Exterior: 2 storeys. Overall 5 window range with its orginal chamfered doorway and
chamfered mullioned windows. Original house on the right has a slightly irregular 3
window front with original doorway left of middle, a 2-light window right of the
doorway and a 4-light window at left and right; first floor has three 3-light windows
and a small blocked window opening at far right at lower level, (probably a former
stair window). Later C17 addition on the left has a nearly symmetrical 3 window
front with original 2-light windows and later approximately central doorway.
Rear has several C17 window openings some of which are blocked.
Interior: Original granite fireplace in each room: 2 fireplaces in original part
have chamfered jambs and lintels; the fireplace at the left-hand end has a chamfered
lintel. Old first floor beams in the left-hand room (boxed in) and possibly there is
an old roof structure (not inspected). There is said to be a plaster barrel ceiling
in the chamber of the rear wing.
