Winding Engine House to Wheal Peevor Mine at SW 708 442

A Grade II Listed Building in Redruth, Cornwall

Wheal Peevor Winding Engine House, Scorrier, Cornwall

Uploader's Comments

Immediately east of the pumping engine house is the house of a 22 inch winding engine erected to hoist from George's shaft in 1872. Both the engine and the house were moved to the site from Little North Downs Mine, the burrows and count house stand some way to the north. The stone loadings in front of the house are those of the flywheel and drum, but the concrete foundations are those of a twin-cylinder horizontal steam whim installed to hoist from the shaft (renamed Sir Frederick's) in 1912.
