House. Mid C19. Rendered brick, painted white, with black-painted dressings;
slate roof. Rectangular double-depth plan. Two storeys and 3 bays; channelled
corner pilasters, 1st floor band with moulded decoration; symmetrical, with
central entrance flanked by 2-storey bay windows; Doric porch mounted on 2
steps and surmounted by a balustrade, protecting a semi-elliptical-headed
doorway with recessed double doors and fanlight with radiating glazing bars; a
large 4-pane sashed window above the porch; canted 2-storey bay windows with
panelled pilasters, dentilled cornices, and horned sashes (4-paned glazing to the
front); modillioned eaves cornice carried round the bays; large flat-roofed dormer
in centre of roof, with coupled 4-pane sashes and pilasters. Gable chimneys. Rear
has 20-pane sashed windows, stairwindow partly covered by modern addition, and
enclosed courtyard with a range of outbuildings including privy, laundry, stores
etc. Interior: moulded plaster palmette and anthemion cornices; some original
fireplaces; ex situ muntin-and-rail panelling in one room. History: said to have
been mine captain's house.
