TL 6222 GREAT DUNMOW NORTH STREET (E side)
7/52 North House

GV II

House, C16 or earlier, C18 and C19. Timber framed and plastered with 'U' plan
peg tile roof. 2 storeys on road front and 3 to rear garden. Front has parapet
with timber cornice and 3 double hung sash windows, with moulded surround and
margin glazing bars. Ground floor has central doorcase with ¾ Doric columns
supporting Ionic entablature with pulvinated frieze and open pediment. Semi-
circular fanlight with 'Y' tracery over original door with 4 vertical panels
with oval inserts. Either side are canted bay windows with hipped roofs with
double hung sash window with margin glazing bars. Early C19 slate roofed
stables and cottage, attached to S side. Interior shows early Cl9 turned
baluster staircase, reeded fireplaces and late C18 fireplace in rear kitchen
with Gothick mantel frieze.
