Description

SW 62 NW SITHNEY

7/238 Antron Farmhouse
-
II

Farmhouse. Circa early-mid C19. Dressed granite and killas brought to course at the
front, otherwise painted rubble with dressed granite quoins, jambstones and lintels,
slate sills. L-plan grouted scantle slate roof with gable end to rear arm of L.
Brick chimneys over the side walls, over 2 stage external rubble stack at rear gable
end and over the rear wall right. Cast-iron ogee gutters.
Plan : L-shaped double-depth plan, 3 rooms deep on left including back kitchen wing
at right angles to rear. 2 rooms at the front: wider parlour/living room left and
parlour right; cross passage between leading to central rear stair hall; shallower
rooms at either side of the stair and passage behind the left hand room with a single
storey porch with probably pantry projecting from the left hand- side of the back door
to this passage. Later C19 lean-to at right hand side of house and C20 conservatory
to the front of this.
2 storeys. Nearly symmetrical 3 window south front, the front slightly wider to the
left of the doorway. Original 4-panel door with flush-beaded bottom panels and
rectangular overlight, 12-pane hornless sashes.
Similar original sashes to the 3 window left hand (west) side wall. Hipped ended
porch between left hand window and the left-of-middle window.
Interior not inspected but possibly as unaltered as the exterior which is very
complete and original.
There was an older house on this site which was destroyed by fire in the C19. The
gate piers qv. probably belonged to the older house.
