Description

ST AGNES GOONOWN ROAD,
SW 75 SW
4/160 Nos 11 and 12
- II

A pair of possible almshouses including front garden walls, gate-piers and steps.
Datestone 1894 (date of present building) and 1759 (probable date of former building
on same site). Killas, brought to course, with granite dressings. Dry Delabole
slate half-hipped roof with exposed rafters under the eaves. Iron gutters. Dressed
granite stacks over the side walls.
Plan: Double-depth plan. 2 identical but mirror-image-plan houses with entrance
halls together in the middle at the front. Each house has a reception room at the
front and probably a kitchen at the rear. Gothic style details.
Exterior: 2 storeys. Symmetrical 4-window front. At the middle is a pair of 2-
centred arched doorways and a pair of 2-light mullioned windows with transoms, over
the doorways, all under a granite coped gable with central datestone with hoodmould.
At either side is a 4-light mullioned bay window and a 3-light mullioned window over.
Left hand house (No 11) has its original casement and sash windows, other house has
C20 windows and door. Both houses have original leaded fanlights with coloured
glass. Shallow garden is fronted by low granite coped rubble wall. Pair of gateways
have granite monolithic gate-piers with pyramidal heads. Dressed granite steps up to
doorways.
Interior: Not inspected.
