TL 51 NE AYTHORPE RODING
2/82 BYRE AND STABLE BLOCK
APPROX. 60 METRES SE OF
AYTHORPE RODING HALL

GV II

Byre with hayloft over, C17, now stables and garage block. Timber-framed,
weatherboarded, tiled. Originally comprised 5 bays, 2 storeys, on a N-S
orientation. Additional bay added to N in C18 on an E-W orientation, with
brick extension to W, probably for stables. Recorded in this form on estate
map of 1766 by I. Mackown (Essex Record Office D/DQ 14/38). Single-storey
farm office added to S, C20. Window with diamond mullions in E wall,
ground floor. Cambered tiebeams altered to interrupted tiebeam construction.
