Description

SW 84 SW KEA

2/120 Treloggas Farmhouse

II

Farmhouse. Probably C17 and remodelled in the C18 and C19 shale rubble walls with
oak and pine lintels and with later heightening in brick laid to English bond to
front range and Flemish bond to rear wing. Scantle slate to front of roof and
asbestos slate to rear and to wing. Brick chimneys over gable ends and axial chimney
over cross wall. Possibly original external rubble breast with off-sets to left-hand
(west) gable end and further circa C18 external breast with blackened quoins to rear
gable of wing.
Plan of 3 rooms with through passage to original front range with circa C18 kitchen
wing to rear of left-hand room and C19 lean-tos to rear of 2 rooms at right of
through passage (surprisingly on lower ground).
2 storeys. Slightly irregular 4-window south front with circa early C19 hornless 16-
pane sashes. Doorway with circa early C19 6-panel door under and slightly to right
of second from left first floor window. Windows to ground floor right of doorway
are widely spaced. Ground floor walling survives from earlier and possibly original
phase of the house, and oak lintels from earlier openings remain at lower level than
present window openings. Walling surrounding right-hand window opening is entirely
rebuilt.
Interior of house was much remodelled in the C19 including the replacement of floors
and roof structure, kitchen in wing has granite flagged floor and large hearth still
used as open fire with oven to left-hand side. Unmoulded ceiling beams.
An interesting remodelling of an earlier house whose evolution probably could be made
clearer by a more detailed examination.
