Monument in Victoria Gardens

Circa 1900. Granite tapering pier with modillion capping supporting crown. Plinth has bronze relief of hero and a tablet inscribed "This monument was erected by his countrymen at home and abroad - To the memory of Major General Sir William Penn Symons KCB of Hatt who fell while commanding the British Troops at Talana Hill, Natal on 20 October 1899".
