Description

SX 16 SE BRADOC BRADOC (OR BROADOAK)

4/34 Penventon House
-
27/8/52
- II

Farmhouse, circa C18 with mid C19 alterations and additions. Possibly an
earlier core. Rubblestone whitewashed on front and partly rendered on rear. Brick
segmental arches to openings. Gabled slate roof which continues down over flanking
wings to form one wide gabled front. Brick stacks in slopes and to rear.
Deep rectangular block with flanking wings slightly projecting. Plan much
altered. Piers flanking central part are broken forward. These were extended and
the roof carried down over to form 3-storey centre block and 2-storey wings. Top
storey slightly jetties out. Almost symmetrical. Partly glazed door near centre
with 2-light centre hung casements with glazing bars to left. 16-pane sash (no
horns) in left hand wing. First floor windows, three 2-light timber casements
with 2 fixed leaded lights above. Similar window in gable end and 3 similar
windows in rear elevation.
Interior not inspected.
Possibly site of earlier monastic foundation. Was seat of Spillers family and
former barton.
