9/102 The Old Post Office

House and shop, now house. Probably early C19, with later C19 shop inserted and some
later alterations. Rendered stone rubble. Slate roof with ridge tiles and gable
ends ; gable end stacks.
Plan: Double depth plan, with central entrance and principal room to front left and
right each heated from a gable end stack. Shallow rear service rooms. In circa mid
C19, the front ground floor was altered as a shop, and a passage inserted at the left
side, giving access to the rear rooms and the first floor.
Exterior: 2 storeys, symmetrical 2-window front. At first floor, two C19 12-pane
sashes in exposed boxes. Ground floor has continuous fascia and moulded cornice ; to
left a 4-panelled door with overlight. The shop front has 2 canted bays with
panelled stall risers, each with a 6-pane light with top margin glazing ; central
panelled and glazed double doors with round-arched glazing and overlight. 2 granite
steps to door. At the right side, the upper gable end is slate-hung.
