Farmhouse and blacksmith's workshop, early C18, with early C19 rear outshut.
Dressed sandstone. Clay pantile roof with stone ridge and gable copings,
chamfered block kneelers and rebuilt brick stacks. Blacksmith's shop at
left, house at right. tistoreys, 3 windows. Off-centre boarded door with
chamfered lintel to cottage. Blocked cart entrance with timber beam, now
holding remains of late c19 sash window, at left end of blacksmiths shop.
C19 doorway with boarded door to right of blocked opening. Sashes with
glazing bars. Ridge and end stacks. Left return shows blocked ground and
first-floor windows. Blocked fire window and garret light with remains of
sash in right return. Pent extension at rear of workshop forms catslide
with main roof. Interior of house has chamfered beamed ceilings,
stop-chamfered fire beam, plain stone fireplace with spice cupboard with
panelled door at left. Stone fireplace in ground-floor room at right end
has architrave, pulvinated frieze and cornice. Disused and dilapidated at
time of survey. Formerly known as Nicholson's Cottage.
