4/7 Grove Cottage

II

Cottage, late C17. Rendering on timber frame, corrugated metal
sheeting covering thatched roof. Single storey and attic, 2 bays with
shippon (west) under the same roof. Timbers painted on rendering but
walls are of genuine timbers with wattle and daub. Modern metal
casements replace the leaded lights at ground floor level but an
original gudgeon-hung leaded light, in gabled dormer with barge board,
remains at first floor level. Ledged and battened door. Single old
stack. Later brick lean-to at rear (south).
Interior: Timbers visible in walls of cottage and shippon. Bevelled
beams and exposed ceiling joists. Wide-boarded doors on old strap
hinges. Old narrow staircase with winders. Old purlins and cleft
thatch rafters.
